Trico assists food banks with generous donations.

To assist Arizona families unable to meet grocery needs, Trico actively engages in donating funds to area food banks, including the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, to which it contributed $10,000 earlier this year.

Trico donated to the food banks of Marana and Green Valley-Sahuarita through the POWER (Providing Opportunities with Effective Resources) Grant program.

“Trico is an important and valued partner in our efforts to provide emergency food assistance to those who desperately need it,” Linda Hampton, executive director at the Marana Community Food Bank, said. With ongoing support, she said, “we can continue to eradicate hunger and poverty throughout Southern Arizona.”

Since it started in 2008, the POWER Grant program has helped many local agencies provide critical services and necessities such as food and clothing, healthcare and education programs to families living in the its service area.

Trico is now accepting applications for the 2016 POWER Grant program and encourages citizens who know an organization that helps children and/or adults with food and basic needs to relay information about the program. Tax-exempt organizations providing food and basic needs programs to children or adults living in Trico's service territory are encouraged to apply.

Organizations need not be located in Trico's service area to be eligible but must demonstrate that the funds will be used to assist a significant amount of children or adults within the service area. Applicants may apply for grants up to $10,000; a total of $40,000 will be distributed. Grants will be evaluated on a competitive basis and awards will be made for a single year.

The application can be found at www.trico.coop/index.php/community/power-grants with a filing deadline of Dec. 1, 2015 by 4:30 p.m.
