University of Phoenix College of Education Executive Dean Andy Drotos has joined the board of the Arizona Educational Foundation (AEF).

Foundation officials said Drotos brings two decades of experience to his new role.

“University of Phoenix is a long-standing partner of the Arizona Educational Foundation,” AEF Executive Director Bobbie O’Boyle said. “We welcome Dr. Drotos as our newest board member. As a leader in the education arena, he brings a unique perspective and great value to our organization.”

Drotos is expected to advocate in particular for ways to support the state's teaching force.

“Seventeen percent of new educators choose to leave the profession within five years, and many cite lack of recognition and support as their reason for pursuing a new profession,” Drotos said. “Teachers are critical to Arizona’s future, and I look forward to ongoing collaboration with the Arizona Educational Foundation as we continue to innovate ways to prepare, recognize and empower Arizona educators.”
