Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry President and CEO Glenn Hamer released a statement opposing a petition for ballot proposition to limit the compensation of health care workers.

“This proposition by out-of-state labor unions would collapse Arizona’s health care industry and dramatically harm other sectors of our economy," Hamer said. "Arizona would be the only state in the country to adopt this terrible economic policy that will drive away jobs in the health care sector and other industries."

Hamer said out-of-state labor interests are using the state's initiative process to carry out an agenda that will harm Arizonans.

"We should all be deeply concerned about this risky scheme," Hamer said. "Today, out-of-state labor unions have targeted health care, but next it’s manufacturing, and then tourism, then technology, and then mining and resources. We must tell these out-of-state unions that Arizona’s initiative process isn’t theirs to experiment with."

Hamer said Arizona is home to renowned hospitals that are providing treatment and care on the cutting edge of medicine, which is something to celebrate, not attack.

"We should work to attract more world-class health care providers, not adopt policies to push them away," Hamer said. “The chamber will work hard to convince Arizona voters to reject this terrible proposition in November.”
