Arizona Corporation Commission Legal Division Director Janice Alward will be retiring after serving more than 30 years with the ACC.

Alward has worked for the state of Arizona for more than 35 years; 31 of those years with the commission.

“Alward has dedicated her career to the Arizona Corporation Commission; we are grateful for her commitment to public service," ACC Chairman Doug Little said. "She has led a team of knowledgeable attorneys who provide the commission with expert legal assistance. She will be missed.”

Alward began her tenure at the ACC in 1985 as a staff attorney and rose through the ranks to become the director of the entire legal division.

Alward has been a wise and dedicated presence on this commission for decades, Commissioner Bob Stump said. "She has called the shots as she saw them, and for this we should all be grateful." Stump said.

Commissioner Bob Burns said Alward is highly respected and he has always valued her guidance.

Alward will retire in the autumn. Deputy Director Janet Wagner and former Director Chris Kempley will act as a transition team while the ACC selects a replacement for Alward.
