Construction has begun on the Rillito River Path bicycle and pedestrian bridge over Camino de la Tierra in Tucson.

The bridge, a project of the Pima County Department of Transportation, Regional Transportation Authority and contractor Falcone Brothers & Associates, is along the Rillito River Path portion of The Loop, near the connection to the Santa Cruz River Path. This area of The Loop experiences high levels of foot, bike and horseback traffic.

The project includes a new 12-foot wide bridge that uses recycled concrete girders gleaned from another bridge replacement project.

Connections to the existing trailhead and to bicycle lanes will stay in place during the project. Work is expected to be completed by autumn of 2017. The construction schedule may change, depending upon weather-related or mechanical issues.

Approach the area with caution and obey all signs and traffic control devices. Ideally, bicyclists and motorists should seek alternate routes during the construction phase.
