Suspiros Cakes, a gourmet cake and pie shop based in Mexico, recently opened in Tucson to a long line of fans eagerly awaiting the chance to purchase delicacies.
A grand opening celebration will be held Friday, with dignitaries from both sides of the border present. The public celebration will include giveaways and free samples of some of the shop's treats.
The Tucson shop, at 5327 S. 12th Ave., is the chain's first U.S. location. A second Tucson shop is in the works at the corner of Ajo Way and 12th Avenue. Another Arizona store will open in Nogales in the Loma Linda mall.
“The first opening was a hit,” Juan Pablo Briseno, Suspiros' director of U.S. operations, said. “We’ve been embraced.”
The treat shop is open Sundays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Within Mexico, there are 263 Suspiros Cakes locations.
