The Arizona Department of Transportation (DOT) urges Phoenix travelers to plan for delays on Interstate 10 in the West Valley this weekend, as the eastbound lanes will be closed for the construction of the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway interchange.

Both eastbound lanes between 75th and 51st avenues will be closed in order to block off zones needed for construction workers. The lanes will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

The eastbound on-ramps at 91st, 83rd and 79th avenues also will be closed.

The DOT encourages motorists to use other freeways such as the Loop 101 west of Interstate 17. Drivers who don't need to travel through Phoenix should take State Route 85 and Interstate 8 and get back to eastbound I-10 south of Casa Grande.

The South Mountain Freeway is expected to open by 2019 and link the East Valley and West Valley.

Check az511.gov or call 511 for road updates because dates could potentially change due to the weather.
