Pima County officials will hold a ceremony at 1 p.m. April 2 to dedicate a memorial at the Christina-Taylor Green Memorial River Park, along the Canada del Oro section of The Loop between Thornydale and Magee roads.

The ceremony will celebrate the life of Christina-Taylor Green, the 9-year-old who was killed Jan. 8, 2011, in a shooting that killed five others and also injured U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ), a release on the Pima County website said.

Taylor's father, John Green, and County Administrator Chuck Huckleberry are scheduled to speak at the ceremony.

The park renovations and memorial have been a community effort, the Pima County release said. Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation and Pima County Regional Flood Control District have been helping the Green family raise funds for renovations to park. Those renovations include adding a central seating plaza, a children’s statue, a butterfly garden and botanical trail, the release said.

The renovation effort was led by Durazo Construction and involved over 200 volunteers and donations, and Albertsons/Safeway and the Pascua Yaqui tribe were key partners in fundraising efforts, the release said.
