The Superior Court of Cochise County recently established a committee and issued a call for applications for the role of an on-call justice of the peace pro tempore.

The initial appointment will be through June 30, 2018, and position is renewable every 12 months. Hours for the position are expected to be sporadic and will include weekends and holidays, according to a press release. The position does not include benefits. The compensation will be $45.992 per hour.

Candidates must be over the age of 18, registered to vote, be an Arizona resident for at least one year and be fluent in English. A law degree or experience in the criminal or civil justice system is preferable.

Responsibilities include conducting initial court appearances and protective order hearings, reviewing search warrant requests, and fulfilling other time-sensitive tasks, such as evictions or preliminary hearings.

The Justice Court Judge Pro Tempore Selection Committee will review applications, conduct interviews and recommend final candidates to Presiding Judge James Conlogue. One or more people may be appointed subject to approval by the Cochise County Board of Supervisors.

Applications are due before 5 p.m. July 28.
