The city of Surprise has opened registration for its youth baseball and softball camps, which will feature Ottawa University’s softball coaching staff as instructors.

The city will offer its camps next month. The camps are designed for children of all skill levels between the ages of 7 to 12 for baseball camp and 7 to 15 for softball.

The camp will help children improve their skills with hitting, base running, fielding and throwing stations, as well as instruction through live scrimmages and game situations, according to an announcement.

Participants must have their own glove, cleats and bat.

Camp staff will include Ottawa University’s softball coaching staff who will use their experience to help kids develop skills through drills and game situations.

The camps will take place from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Oct. 16-18. Baseball camp will be held at the Youth Baseball Complex on North Parkview Place, and the softball camp will be held at the Surprise Farms Softball Complex on Westpark Boulevard.

Registration is also underway for the city’s girls’ volleyball league and Babe Ruth softball and Cal Ripken T-ball and baseball leagues.

Space for the camp is limited and registration can be completed online or in person at the Community and Recreation Services office on North Bullard Avenue from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
