The Pima County Las Artes Arts & Education Center is enrolling students for its upcoming GED program.

The GED program, which is sponsored by the Pima County Community Services, Employment and Training Department and the SER-Jobs for Progress, is now open for enrollment. The program will begin on Oct. 30 and is for ages 17-22. Students are required to take a basic assessment for placement level before attending the orientation, which from 8 a.m.-noon Oct. 25, according to a press release.

The program will prepare students for the new GED test in approximately 16 weeks and combines classroom study with community art projects to help the students prepare for the exam. The student’s murals, ceramic tiles and other artwork can be seen displayed across Pima County.

Qualified case managers are available to coach the students and address any issues that may hinder them in the classroom. 

Since the inception of the Las Artes program almost 20 years ago, over 500 students have obtained their GEDs and the program boasts a 90 percent student pass rate compared to a rate of 61 percent nationally, the release said.
