Market demand lures Oncology Services International to Arizona

There is a specific strategy behind why Oncology Services International (OSI), an independent service provider for radiation oncology devices, recently expanded into Arizona, according to OSI President and CEO Richard Hall.

“We have always wanted to expand to the Arizona market for two primary reasons,” Hall told Arizona Business Daily today. “One, Arizona has a robust health care provider base and the population, particularly with retirees, that may be in need of cancer-related services was attractive in terms of market demand for our services.

“Two, we felt that the market has been underserved with regard to independent, cost-effective alternatives for radiation therapy services,” he said.

OSI has more than 50 field service engineers providing coverage to roughly 200 linear accelerator sites nationwide and provides training and certification for all field service engineers at its Lakewood, New Jersey, facility.

The first customer in Arizona that OSI will provide contracted services to is Integrated Medical Services and its six linear accelerators around the state. Hall said that while OSI will not actually have offices in Arizona, “we may over time have a small warehouse operation there for parts.”

Additionally, OSI will have two certified engineers in Arizona and both will be on site during the fourth quarter, he told Arizona Business Daily.

Having also just recently expanded into Oklahoma, Hall said the company's growth has been fueled by the need radiation oncology facilities have for top-notch customer service at a fair price. “Health care providers are demanding, and deserve, cost-effective services in today’s challenging health care environment,” he said.

OSI’s expansion into Arizona, Hall said, also demonstrates that markets are embracing alternatives to original equipment manufacturer post-warranty service.

“We are excited to be expanding to Arizona and look forward to helping our customers provide excellent cancer care to their patients,” Hall told Arizona Business Daily.
