Andy Tobin

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey named former Arizona Speaker of the House Andy Tobin as director of the Arizona Department of Insurance last week.

“I’m honored to [continue] serving the people of Arizona as a member of Governor Ducey’s administration,” Tobin said. “I thank the governor for this opportunity and look forward to working with him and the department to protect Arizona consumers.”

Tobin most recently served as director of the Arizona Department of Weights and Measures, where he was influential in the consolidation of activities into other areas of state government in order to cut down on bureaucracy. Having operated a local insurance firm as well as his own employee benefit business, the former congressman brings a broad wealth of experience to his new role, including banking and public policy as well as insurance.

Tobin, who represented rural Arizona in the state House and was Speaker from 2011 through 2015, also served on several association and foundation boards, and ran an Arizona aerospace company, overseeing a staff of 200.

“I’m pleased to announce Andy Tobin will continue his service to the state in this new role,” Ducey said. “I know he will serve the people of Arizona with the same energy, diligence and reform-minded attitude for which he is known and trusted.”
