Andy Tobin

Andy Tobin was sworn in as the state’s newest commissioner for the Arizona Commission Corporation (ACC) this week in Phoenix.

From humble beginnings in insurance, business and consulting sectors, Tobin rose to prominence over the years, beginning with involvement with the Jaycees and numerous benevolent organizations on a national level and working his way up to a political life that culminated with his nomination to the ACC.

Appointed by the governor to serve as director of the Arizona Department of Insurance in October 2015, and additionally named as acting director of the Arizona Department of Financial Institutions, Tobin previously served as director of the Arizona Department of Weights and Measures, helping to consolidate the agency, reduce costs, and improve consumer services and protections.

From 2006 to 2014, Tobin represented rural Arizona in the state House of Representatives, serving as both House Majority Leader and Majority Whip prior to acting as Speaker of the House from 2011 to 2014. During his time in the legislature, he was active on the Pensions, and Health and Human Services committees; and was named vice chair of the Education Committee.

Tobin also played a key role in ushering in major tax reform for the state, revamping Arizona’s Commerce Authority and creating the Department of Child Safety.

“I look forward to working on the commission,” Tobin said. “I’ve known my fellow commissioners for some time and respect the hard work they do every day. I am grateful to Gov. Doug Ducey for entrusting me with this opportunity to serve and am proud to represent rural Arizona in the important issues that will come before the commission.”
