Karen Fann

Effectively consolidating disparate government offices, legislation recently introduced in the Arizona House of Representatives to boost economic development by State Rep. Karen Fann (R-District 1) will create the Governor’s Economic Opportunity Office (GEOO), designed to simplify job creation.

Working under and reporting to the Arizona Commerce Authority, the new GEOO will provide analytics and strategy tools in an initiative termed “ACA 2.0” to measure Arizona against other states, ease regulatory and tax loads, and stream real-time data to enable the government to attract new business to the state.

Gov. Doug Ducey thanked Rep. Fann for her leadership efforts, emphasizing that the plan will help Arizona to attract prospective new enterprises with “quality of life, low taxes, light regulations, good financing and qualified workers.”

Fann noted that Arizona is becoming a desirable location for companies, particularly small businesses and startups; and that the state needs to continue to ramp up its efforts, keeping up with insight into other states’ assets and drawbacks and analyzing that data to support Arizona’s publicity efforts in courting new businesses.

“[W]e need … to be able to tell companies, in dollars, how much they will save by doing business with Arizona,” Fann said. “GEOO will give us the analytics that we’re currently missing, while enhancing our success on the marketing side. I’m proud of this legislation and I thank Gov. Ducey for his commitment to economic competitiveness.”
