Tucson Electric Power has released its resource plan.

Tucson Electric Power (TEP) recently released a resource plan in which it pledges to work hard to meet customer energy needs through a number of advancements.

TEP said new measures will include a combination of renewable energy sources and efficiency programs. There will also be additions of new technology to reduce the need for coal and increase the overall dependability of of the energy system.

"We're working to integrate emerging technologies into our system and pursue a resource diversification strategy that achieves our environmental goals while preserving safe, reliable, affordable service for customers," TEP President David Hutchens said.

TEP will be investing in solar arrays, as well as other resources that will make efficiency and renewability more accessible.

TEP will also investigate ways to improve the reliability of smart grid technology and reduce the cost of energy for customers.

The measures aim to be able to save 22 percent cumulatively by 2020. 

This year, TEP will begin offering discounts for those customers who choose to purchase energy-saving appliances and heating and cooling units.
