Sushi and grill chain Kona Grill, with corporate headquarters in Scottsdale, said Friday that it plans to open six locations throughout the United Arab Emirates by 2023.
Kona Grill has signed an agreement RAK Hospitality Holding (RAKHH) subsidiary Hakaya Collection that provides Kona Grill access to a variety of locations near hotels, recreation and hospitality business in Ras Al Khaimah.
“We are pleased to partner with Hakaya and RAKHH for the development of six Kona Grill restaurants," Kona Grill President and CEO Berke Bakay said. "Their vast experience in hotels and restaurants makes them the right partner to build our brand in the UAE. The signing of this agreement marks another milestone in our international strategy and follows the Mexico development agreement signed earlier this year.”
Kona Grill operates 37 locations throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.
RAKHH officials said they were excited about bringing an established and successful brand to the UAE.
"We believe Kona Grill will meet the increasing demand for premier casual dining concepts in the UAE and that we can add a lot of value to this segment by introducing a differentiated model to our audiences," RAKHH CEO Yannis Anagnostakis said. "We are confident that Kona Grill will be well-received in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah and we look forward to working with our new partners on successfully launching this brand.”
