AT&T said it has invested almost $350 million in wireless improvements in the Phoenix area over the past three years.

AT&T siad Tuesday it has invested almost $350 million in wireless improvements in the Phoenix area over the past three years.

The company said it has added cell tower sites, expanded network capacity and made LTE upgrades. The improvements were designed to improve speed, access and consistency of service. Many of the upgrades focused on sports arenas, hotels and other high-volume entertainment and tourism destinations.

"We're committed to providing our customers fast, reliable, highly secure connectivity," Jerry Fuentes. president of AT&T operations in Arizona and New Mexico, said. "We want them to be able to access the internet at any moment, from almost any device and from anywhere. Our continued investment in Phoenix brings a host of new, innovative opportunities for residents and businesses."

Local business leaders praised the investments as a boon to local economy.

"In order for Arizona to continue to thrive and serve its residents, it's imperative we have companies that invest through thoughtful innovation," Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chief Operating Officer John Ragan said. "With AT&T's on-going investment in its fast, reliable network, our residents and businesses have the tools to compete and grow."
