The Arizona Department of Transportation said the Bell Road overpass at Grand Avenue (U.S. 60) in Surprise is on track to open to traffic Nov. 22.

When the $41.9 million project is completed, the overpass will accommodate both pedestrians and vehicles. Crews have been pouring concrete for sidewalks on the overpass and a pedestrian fence will be added to the bridge in upcoming weeks.

Though overpass is scheduled open next month, extreme weather or other circumstances could cause unexpected delays. The entire interchange is planned to reopen in spring.

Bell Road is closed between 134th Avenue and West Point Parkway during this phase of the project, which will help reduce the impact of construction. Nearby businesses are still accessible. The main detour routes during the closure are Dysart, Greenway and Litchfield roads. Drivers should pay attention to detour signs and speed limits to ensure the safety of all drivers and workers in the area.
