Pima County said the Consolidated Justice Court has recently launched a new phone notification system to alert court attendees.

The new text system has started, sending text messages to notify of upcoming court dates, approaching payment due dates, when driver’s license suspensions are pending, cases that are going to collections and when warrants have been issued, a Pima County press release said.

Prior to its implementation, Pima County used an automated phone message to alert court attendees of their court dates.

Now that it is available and successfully operating, the text system alerts and notifies court visitors with a text message in addition to an automated phone call, if they are signed up to receive alerts via phone.

The reason for updating the system was to reach a larger audience and remind individuals of their court dates, warrants and payments due, the release said.

"In today’s digital age, only 70 percent of customers with phone numbers on file are reachable via voice messages. When text messaging was enabled, that number increased to an average of 85 percent," the release said.
