Maricopa residents looking to get more involved in local government can become part of the Maricopa Citizen Leadership Academy (MCLA).

Applications are being accepted for 25 spots, according to an announcement. The MCLA, which starts Sept. 20, runs for six Wednesdays and ends Nov. 1. Sessions are from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and no session will be held Oct. 4.

MCLA graduation will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Maricopa City Hall.

The MCLA was formed to help residents grow into roles where they can become actively engaged in citizens. The six-session program allows citizens to learn about the inner workings of the municipal government and to help create constructive dialogue with MCLA graduates and the city’s officials and staff, the announcement said.

Those interested in being a part of the fall 2017 MCLA should register as soon as possible. If registration for the academy reaches seating capacity, registrants will be placed on a waiting list.
