Tucson Electric Power (TEP) has kicked off an online contest that will give local nonprofits a chance to win $125,000.

In celebration of the company’s 125th anniversary, TEP launched its Powerful Choice Challenge, which will allow the community members to vote online for one of five nonprofit agencies they would like to see receive a contribution from the company. Tucson will also donate funds ranging from $5,000 to $20,000 to nonprofits that are runners-up in the contest.

TEP has selected the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, Habitat for Humanity Tucson, Junior Achievement of Arizona, the Primavera Foundation and Tucson Values Teachers to be a part of the challenge. According to TEP, the contest is not only being held in conjunction with the company’s anniversary but also as part of its 2017 plans to donate more than $1.5 million to local charities from its corporate resources.

Powerful Choice Challenge participants must be 18 years old or older and must live or work in TPE’s service area. Votes may be cast during the voting period once per day after visiting TEP.com and clicking on "Challenge Promotion" and then clicking on the preferred nonprofit. The voting period will run from 6 a.m. Mountain Standard Time Oct. 16 through 6 a.m. MST Oct. 25.

TEP will announce the Challenge winners on Oct. 25 through its website and social media platforms.
