Subaru of America Inc. will donate a 2018 Subaru Outback for Coconino County Community Services Department’s Meals on Wheels deliveries.

The Coconino County Community Services Department was slated to receive the donation at a special dedication ceremony Monday.

In partnership with the Meals on Wheels America program, Subaru of America and Flagstaff Subaru will officially present the vehicle to the county as part of its support of local communities throughout the nation, according to a press release.

According to the county, the Community Services Department drives an average of 2,515 miles and delivers 1,344 meals each month, including deliveries to 64 seniors. The new Subaru Outback rotate between the Meals on Wheels routes and will help staff and volunteers to reach those receiving the much-needed meals.

The Coconino County Community Services Department is a designated Community Action Agency (CAA) which assists residents of all ages who are financially distressed.

According to Meals on Wheels America, the organization serves 23 million fewer meals than it did 12 years ago due to lack of federal funding and is expected to see larger cuts from the federal government in 2018.
