Three floats from the recent Avondale Billy Moore Days Parade came away as winners, beating out over 56 parade entries in the year’s event.

This year’s parade drew a crowd of over 4,500 people as part of the four-day Billy Moore Days carnival and festival weekend, according to an announcement.

Taking the prize for Best Overall Appearance was the Sun City Poms, whose presentation included blue and silver glittered costumes. Best Community Spirit was awarded to the city of Avondale’s All-American City float, which commemorated the city’s All-American City designation it was awarded this year. The dancing horses parade entry of Cuadra Espinoza took honors for the Most Entertaining award.

According to the city, 13,000 people attended this year’s Bill Moore Days events and filled the streets of historic Avondale for the festival.

The event was organized by the Billy Moore Days Planning Committee, which is made up of community members and local businesses. The committee worked in conjunction with the Southwest Valley Chamber of Commerce to help plan the event.

The city is already in the planning stages for the 2018 Billy Moore Days events, which are slated to take place Oct. 18-21.
