The City of Avondale has issued a Notice of Intent to raise water and wastewater rates by 6 percent beginning next year as the third phase of rate increases that are part of the six-year schedule the City Council approved in 2016.

Under the new rate schedule, average increases would be $1.47 for water customers who use 9 kgal/month and $1.49 for wastewater customers who use 6 kgal/month. The new rates would take effect Feb. 20, 2018.

The approved six-year rate increase schedule was based on a 2014 study that determined that adjustments in water and wastewater were needed in order for the city to sustain current levels of service, fund infrastructure improvements and establish reserves.

A public information meeting regarding the rate increases will be held Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. at the Avondale City Hall on West Civic Center Drive. The official public hearing and council meeting will be held on Feb. 20, 2018 from 6-7 p.m. at City Hall.
