The Town of Marana recently hosted a citizens' forum regarding a new public art policy development plan focused on boosting the area's beauty, tourism and economy.
Developed by the Marana Citizens' Forum, a group which meets twice each year to discuss issues relating to the betterment of the Town of Marana, the plan has been in the works for the past several months.
“Public art, when done correctly and tastefully, improves the beauty of any given area and adds an element of sophistication and culture,”forum delegate Kathy Officer said in a statement to the Marana Town Council. “Public art enhances public spaces and makes them more enjoyable. ... With art showcased in different areas of the town, we can address the individual identities of the town and showcase their beauty."
According to the Marana Citizens' Forum, the plan for the new public art policy in Marana includes incorporating art in specific areas of the town. The forum says it hopes to build a "sense of place" with each piece of artwork.
In November, the Town of Marana debuted its "Deer at Tangerine Sky Park" metal sculptures, which include five solid steel figures of a family of deer.
