The City of Avondale has opened its registration for the 2018 Avondale Citizen Leadership Academy, which will kick off its 2018 program in February.

The 10-week academy gives participants a behind-the scenes look at city government, including interactive workshops on the city's operation, future development and neighborhoods. Academy members tour the city's various parks and facilities and get a behind the scenes look at all of the City of Avondale's departments, including a first-hand look at police and fire vehicles and equipment.

Avondale's Leadership Academy is designed to help build civic leadership and citizen participation by giving residents the opportunity to learn about city operations and functions. Enrollment in the Leadership Academy is free and open to residents 18 and older. A graduation ceremony will be held in May for those who complete the course.

Leadership Academy classes will be held on Wednesdays from 6-8:30 p.m. with three Saturday field trips. Visit avondaleaz.gov/government/citizen-academy or call 623-333-1613 to apply or for more information.
