Cochise County is seeking to fill vacancies on two of its school district governing boards and is now accepting applications from interested residents.

The county recently announced it needs to fill one vacancy each on the Fort Huachuca Accommodation School District and the Benson School District governing boards. The seat on the Benson School District board is left vacant by Frank "Chic" Maldonado, who recently passed away after a battle with cancer.

“All who served with him will miss him,” Cochise County School Superintendent Jacqui Clay said in a press release.

Requirements for the board seats include being a registered voter and a citizen of the U.S. Applicants must also have resided within the school district continually for one year or more immediately preceding taking office. Neither an applicant nor his or her spouse can be employees of the school district.

According to county statutes, a person registered to vote in the county in which the accommodation school is located and is either employed or resides on Fort Huachuca is eligible to be appointed to the governing board.

Interested citizens should email a letter of interest along with their resume to chief deputy school superintendent Rose Martinez at rmartinez@cochise.az.gov. Letters may also be mailed to 1415 Melody Lane, Building C, Bisbee, AZ 85603.
