United Way is offering free tax-preparation assistance in Pima County as part of the Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. The initial process takes about 20 minutes and the return is then mailed or picked up at a VITA site. Appointments are not necessary.

Taxpayers needing assistance must bring the following documents:

***A picture I.D. for taxpayer and spouse. Both spouses must be present to sign documents

***Social Security card for EACH family member

***Proof of income, including W2s and 1099s.

***Documentation for deductible expenses (home mortgage interest, real estate taxes, etc.)

***Forms 5498-SA and 1099-SA for Health Savings Accounts and 1095A for Affordable Care Act.

***Bank account and routing numbers for direct deposit of refunds.

The hours for VITA assistance are Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesdays from noon to 5 p.m., and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
