Pima County’s Summer Youth Employment Program is accepting applications from youth who want to work this summer or earn school credits.

The two sessions are June 4-28 and July 2-28. Youths must be at least 14 but not yet 22 on June 1 to be eligible to participate, though specific program eligibility varies by age.

Participants can work for Pima County, the City of Tucson, the University of Arizona, and other participating businesses and organizations for $10.50 per hour. Placements range from four to seven weeks and work hours range from 20 to 40 hours a week.

The programs also include a basic education component, through which participants can earn high school credits in math, reading and writing.

Participants are selected based on their applications, grades, assessment scores, work interests, available funding, applicant program selections, geographic area, and worksite requirements. There will be a one-day “employability skills” workshop.

Deadlines are March 9 for completing the application and March 23 for the submission of a report card and assessment. Applications are available online and at local high schools, community centers and libraries. For more information, call Pima County Summer Youth Programs at 520-724-9639.
