The Government Finance Officers Association presented the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award to the City of Yuma for the 14th year on Feb. 7 at the City Council meeting.

This award recognizes the city’s ability to meet “nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.” These guidelines evaluate how well budgets are “a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.”

The budget has to meet all 14 criteria within at least four of the aforementioned categories.

“I’m surprised that I don’t have nightmares over this award," Yuma’s Chief Financial Officer Pat Wicks said. "For the second time, the city lost to retirement a major player who helped win and retain this award, Wendy Wrenn. Fortunately, our new budget and revenue manager, Teresa Laurent, stepped up to take over the role and she helped finish the budget.”

The current budget document is available on the city’s website.
