Mattress manufacturer King Koil will build a state-of-the-art, 90,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in the Phoenix suburb of Avondale.

The company initially will staff 50 people at the site. The new plant will provide merchandise to retail partners in 12 Western states.

"This new King Koil factory is a key component of our new direct-to-retail manufacturing strategy,” King Koil CEO David Binke said.

The factory also will include offices for plant management, customer service teams, and a 2,500-square-foot showroom, where King Koil can showcase its entire national product lineup to its retail partners.

"The Arizona factory will enhance our efficiency as we continue to implement our new platform," Binke said. "By controlling our own manufacturing base, we'll be able to respond faster to our retail partners' needs.

King Koil is in the process of shifting its domestic business model from a licensing structure to a direct-to-retail manufacturing strategy. To accommodate the expected growth, the company partnered with long-time licensee Blue Bell Mattress, which will continue to service King Koil retail partners in the East and Midwest.

“Manufacturing and distribution is a thriving industry base for Greater Phoenix, and King Koil's expansion to Avondale will allow them to grow their model to make and directly distribute their product to their consumers,” Chris Camacho, president and CEO of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, said.
