Gov. Doug Ducey welcomed the announcement by President Donald Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen that the federal government will deploy National Guard troops to enhance security in border states.

"Arizona welcomes the deployment of National Guard to the border," Ducey said. He also criticized Washington's long history of indifference to border security and Arizonans' safety.

"I've been in touch with Secretary Nielsen multiple times this week, and we will cooperate fully with the administration on this effort," Ducey said.

The governor said Arizona's Border Strike Force has enjoyed tremendous success in providing tight security to the Mexican border with Arizona since 2015 through the joint support and cooperation of state, local and federal law enforcement authorities. He further ensured that his administration will join hands with the federal authorities to provide any sort of protective measures for the national security.
