The i.d.e.a Museum in Mesa is hosting the “Artful Play! Games & Toys” exhibition June 15 through Sept. 9.
The hands-on exhibit focuses on developing problem-solving and creative-thinking skills through play, and highlights the importance of play beyond childhood.
“Games and toys open the door to great together time and conversation," Sunnee O’Rork, i.d.e.a. Museum executive director, said in a press release. "They also introduce us to world cultures, teach us strategy and sportsmanship, and a whole lot more. These lessons from playthings are both fun and relevant, and play keeps young brains engaged over summer break."
Visitors to the exhibit can create a virtual pinball game, design and launch paper planes, play games popular around the world, build on a giant wall structure and indulge in life-size games.
The exhibition will also feature paintings, sculptures and photographs highlighting the history of toys and games and their importance through the ages.
