Marana Town Council recently appointed John Officer as a new councilman to fill a position left vacant due to the passing of Carol McGorray.

Officer assumed the position on April 17 and will serve until the end of the McGorray’s term.

He previously served on the town’s Planning Commission. 

Officer, a weed control business owner, was raised in Buckeye before he moved to Marana in 1990. He has worked and volunteered in the town for 25 years, including serving the Marana Public Works Department and the Parks and Recreation Commission. He was also involved with the Central Arizona Project for more than three decades. 

He is also a volunteer for Marana Little League and is helping to seek donors for additional facilities at Ora Mae Harn Park. Officer also is currently serving on the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona Advisory Board.
