The Town of Marana has awarded Alicia Sanchez its 2018 Youth Legacy Award.

The award is given to an individual who has improved Marana by creating a healthy and supportive environment for youth; fulfilling basic and essential needs such as food, shelter and safety; and creating educational opportunities.

Sanchez accepted the award from Marana Mayor Ed Honea during the 2018 State of the Town Luncheon.

An alumna of Marana High School and an active volunteer in her community, Sanchez is described as an advocate for public safety. She previously participated in the Marana 2.0 internship program and hosted an event to build rapport between police and high schoolers.

Sanchez said she plans to pursue a career in criminal justice and eventually become a detective.
