The Marana Town Council will support the 2018 YMCA Community Military Ball, one of Arizona’s biggest formal integrations of community and military, on Nov. 10 at the Tucson Convention Center.

The military ball recognizes the organization’s tradition of service to military families by honoring veterans, active duty, reserve, fallen, and retired servicemen and women. Because of the support for the military, Marana has been named a Purple Heart City.

“I want to thank the town, the mayor, the vice mayor and all of the council members for all your support for the military, our current active serving military members, as well as our veterans and retired,” U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Ted Maxwell (Ret.), the event's co-chair, said. “This community is incredibly open.”

Maxwell also expressed his gratitude for the Marana Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, which opened in 2016.
