The City of Avondale's Neighborhood & Family Services Department is asking the community to help support its annual Back to School Backpack Program which provides pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade students with supplies for the upcoming school year. 

Donations are being accepting from now through July13 at the Care1st Avondale Resource Center on West Western Avenue. 

Items needed include boxes of 24 crayons, boxes of 12 colored pencils, No. 2 pencils, red rubber erasers, boxes of 12 markers, 12-inch rulers, 4 oz. glue sticks, and children's scissors. Items also needed include composition notebooks, loose leaf paper, spiral notebooks, pocket folders, packaged ballpoint pens and backpacks. 

Any child or family who is in need of a backpack can sign up on July 11 from 9-11 a.m. at the Care1st Avondale Resource Center. To register, parents need to bring a picture ID and proof of residence from Avondale, Goodyear or Litchfield Park such as a utility bill or a current lease agreement.
