Apache Junction Mayor Jeff Serdy has been elected to chair the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority alongside additional officers chosen from its existing board of directors.

“Gateway Airport is a major economic engine not only for the Phoenix East Valley, but the state of Arizona as a whole,” Serdy said. “I am honored to chair the board as we work together to build upon the recent success we have seen with SkyBridge Arizona, growing commercial passenger traffic and increased interest in the airport. The jobs created and economic impact to surrounding communities are vital to our growing economy.”

Serving with Serdy will be Gila River Indian Community Lt. Gov. Robert Stone as vice chair; Queen Creek Mayor Gail Barney as secretary; interim Phoenix Mayor Thelda Williams as treasurer; and Mesa Mayor John Giles and Gilbert Mayor Jenn Daniels as directors.

Serdy began his term as Apache Junction mayor in January 2017. With an entrepreneurial background and love of the outdoors, he founded and owns AJI Sporting Goods. He previously served two terms as a council member starting in 2007.

The new chair proved pivotal in the creation of the Apache Junction Focal Point and Community Tourism Committee; additionally, he contributed his time and skills as a member of the Governor’s Tourism Advisory Council.
