GLENDALE — Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers was unanimously elected as vice chair to the Transportation Policy Committee to help to develop the region's transportation policies.

The Regional Council of the Maricopa of Governments (MAG) elected Weiers to serve in the vice chair post and will work with the 22-member committee to oversee the development of the region's 20-year transportation plan and help guide transportation planning.

Weiers said with the area's growth, transportation issues are a critical issue for the region.

“As our region continues to sustain economic growth, transportation infrastructure remains a key priority to our citizens and business community," Weiers said in a statement. "The Maricopa Association of Governments will be making critical transportation decisions over the next few years, which will shape the future of our region."

Weiers also serves on the MAG Regional Council and Regional Council Executive Committee and previously served as TPC vice chair in 2014.
