PHOENIX — The Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA) is applauding Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich for his legal efforts against Volkswagen's false advertising, which has resulted in a settlement for consumers.

Brnovich's 2016 lawsuit against Volkswagen for its "Clean Diesel" cars alleged false advertising claims was settled in May with Volkswagen agreeing to pay Volkswagen customers over $10 million for every qualifying vehicle sold and leased in the state from 2008 and 2015.

The lawsuit alleged Volkswagen had false emissions tests on cars during a five-year period. The settlement includes certain Volkswagen drivers receiving around $964.

"Brnovich has been incredibly active defending Arizona customers and continues to lead the charge in protecting Arizonians," RAGA said in a statement. "This is the first direct restitution granted in the state due to the diligence of Brnovich and his office. He is a champion of fairness."

According to the RAGA statement, over 2,700 people are expected to receive an initial payment of $964 and a second batch of checks will be mailed in November with the last round coming out in January.
