City of Goodyear issued the following announcement on Dec. 11.

The Goodyear Arts and Culture Commission presents “StoryRise Goodyear,” Thursday January 3, 2019. The “Finding Narratives in Your Poetry” workshop for all artists begins at 6PM, followed by the for-adults outdoor spoken-word performance at 7PM. Interested parties may attend either or both free-of-charge events. Held at the Goodyear Branch Library, located at 14455 W. Van Buren in Goodyear, AZ. This performance is not intended for children. For more information, please see the website at http://www.storyrise.com.

For January, the workshop leader and a featured performer is Tomás J. Stanton. Co-Founder of Phoenix's premiere youth spoken-word ensemble, Phonetic Spit, Tomás uses hip-hop pedagogy to inspire youth to boldly express themselves through poetry, dance, & theatre. His work and teaching style are rooted in his childhood experiences of poverty and single-parent household, political issues, identity, and love.

“Goodyear Arts & Culture is always expanding to explore new avenues for artistic expression. StoryRise brings the audience face to face with artists to experience a 'moment' through the medium of storytelling,” says Guylene Ozlanski, the Arts and Culture Coordinator for the City of Goodyear.

Sean Buvala, of “The Small-Tooth-Dog Publishing Group,” directs the production. He says, "We want to be sure that folks understand this is not a children's event. We don't suggest anyone under age 13 attend these events."

StoryRise returns for the 2018/2019 season, sponsored by the Goodyear Arts and Culture Commission and The Small-Tooth-Dog Publishing Group, presenting 5 nights of adult storytelling and hands-on workshops for all performing artists. StoryRise is held on the first Thursday of each month through March. For more information, please see the StoryRise website at http://www.storyrise.com .
