Mesa Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Jan. 31.

In light of the St. Louis Cardinals recent acquisition of All-Star first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, many are left wishing his family a heartfelt farewell, all the while settling into the new. As Paul and Amy Goldschmidt were once confirmed as Honorary Spokespersons for House of Refuge’s Hot Havana Nights Gala, that soon changed after the trade took place.

Executive Director of House of Refuge and avid fan of the Arizona Diamondbacks, stated that, “We want to thank Paul and Amy Goldschmidt for their continued support of House of Refuge and the families we serve. Unfortunately, Spring Training begins early for the St. Louis Cardinals and will prevent him from attending this year’s Gala. However, Paul has solicited the talents of his friend, Nick Ahmed, to fill his Spokesperson position for this year’s House of Refuge Gala. We wish Paul and Amy the best St. Louis has to offer, safe travels, and pray they know the loving place they will forever hold in the hearts of so many Arizonans. We also congratulate Nick on receiving the 2018 National League Golden Glove Award and thank him, and wife Amanda, for stepping in as this year’s House of Refuge Gala Spokespersons”.

The Hot Havana Nights Gala is Saturday, March 2nd, 2019 at the Wild Horse Pass & Casino, hosted by the Board of Directors, and all proceeds benefit House of Refuge.  House of Refuge is a non-profit, local transitional housing provider to Arizona homeless families. Through their 21-year history of supporting courageous families out of their cycle of homelessness, they have provided housing and support services to over 8,000 individuals.
