Anderson University issued the following announcement on April 24

Dr. Jennifer Coy, chair and professor for the Department of Computer Science, has been a strong and unique asset to Anderson University. She has had an extremely positive impact since joining the faculty in August of 2014.

She received her Bachelor of Science at the University of Toledo in computer science engineering. She went on to receive her master’s degree and doctorate in Physics from Purdue University. She then taught physics and computer science for 10 years at a small college in Rensselaer, Ind.

Dr. Coy is constantly seeking enhanced learning opportunities for students. She took three women to the Women in Cybersecurity conference in Pittsburgh, PA in March. Dr. Coy and the students received grants from the conference sponsors (this included Google, Facebook, and Cisco) to cover lodging, food, and reduced the conference registration. She feels that this conference was highly impactful and that the students “learn a lot and grew in confidence in their abilities, plus networking.”

She also had a hand in bringing Ontario Systems to AU which provides an on-campus internship opportunity for computing students. “Our students tell us that the exposure to new technology, challenges, and team lessons are critical to them both during their time with us and as they transition into their professional life after graduation,” said Coy.

Dr. Coy is one of the finest professors I’ve gotten the pleasure to personally and professionally encounter. She cares deeply for her students and teaches content in a relevant and practical way – working with outside organizations on class projects, inviting industry professionals to share and connect with students, creating programs and partnerships that encourage deeper experiential learning, and encouraging students toward success as they see it.
