There were 135,244 health care and social assistance businesses in the U.S. that had between 10 and 19 employees in 2016, according to County Business Patterns (CBP) statistics provided by the United States Census Bureau.

CBP data indicates that there are more establishments categorized as retail trade businesses with between 10 and 19 employees in the U.S. than in any other category.
