Afena Federal Credit Union in Marion, Indiana is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our team. Throughout our history, Afena has been dedicated to serving our community; and today we remain committed to helping our members achieve their financial dreams. The Senior Accountant will support the financial management and operations of the Credit Union through the maintenance of accounting records and reports and will perform advanced accounting work under minimal supervision. They will assist with the oversight of others in the department, including checking work and serving as a back-up. The ideal candidate will be well-organized, detailed oriented, and able to juggle many projects.

Accountant Duties and Responsibilities:

•    Prepare and oversee activities of accounting clerks who participate in the preparation of all financial, statistical, and accounting records of the credit union.  Prepare journal entries and ensure they are processed and posted in a timely and accurate manner.

•    Prepare reconciliations of transaction accounts; ensuring general and subsidiary ledgers are balanced and all variances and discrepancies are resolved.

•    Prepare, review, and analyze month-end financial statements; conduct variance analysis; create, maintain, and update other financial reports as directed.

•    Participate in the budget process; primarily responsible for expenditures; prepare special reports.

•    Cross-train and act as a backup; perform duties of colleagues in the accounting/finance department to ensure timely processing of all functions, including accounts payable, ACH processing, card processing, and other electronic services activities.

•    Work with auditors/examiners on interim, year-end, and comprehensive audits and exams.

•    Participate in community events to help promote Afena and provide financial education to our community.

•    Assist in developing policies, procedures, and process improvement strategies that will improve efficiencies and reduce costs.

The Ideal Candidate Will Bring:

•    Two to five years of similar or related experience.

•    A bachelor's degree.

•    Prior work experience in a financial institution is a plus.

•    A love for a collaborative, energetic, and member-focused environment.

•    Proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel.

•    Exceptional planning, time management, and organizational skills to meet deadlines.

•    A high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information.

•    An eagerness to learn and willingness to take on new challenges.

•    Prior Symitar experience is a plus.
