Pima County Sheriff’s Lt. Douglas Hanna has received a meritorious service award from the Yavapai County board of supervisors for his response efforts to the Goodwin Fire in the Prescott area.

Hanna was honored during the board's 2017 Department of Emergency and Military Affairs Preparedness Symposium in Scottsdale.

“As emergencies happen across the state we realize the limited capabilities of our agencies and recognize the need to support each other,” Pima County Office of Emergency Management Director Jeff Guthrie said in a statement. “No county emergency management office has the staff to support an extended operation without asking for help. Pima County Emergency Management is privileged to have a cadre of well trained personnel that we can call upon to assist when emergencies arise.”

Hanna, a former firefighter in the New York City area, joined the Pima County Sheriff’s Department in 1996. He is the commander of the Tucson Mountain District and was deployed to Yavapai County to serve as planning section chief on the fire’s incident management team.

“It’ is always our intent to support our partners when asked and fortunately we have highly qualified professionals such as Lt. Hanna that rise to the occasion and deploy when requested to do so," Guthrie said. "Thank you Doug.”
