Wells Fargo & Company has announced the appointment of Clay Hale as the new co-head of Equity Capital Markets (ECM) within the Banking division of its Corporate & Investment Bank. The company made this appointment following Hale's recent role as the global head of Consumer & Retail (C&R) Banking, Capital Markets, and Advisory at Citigroup.

Hale will be working closely with Jill Ford, a recent addition to Wells Fargo who came on board in September. According to a press release by Wells Fargo, they will both report to Tim O’Hara, the head of Banking and be based in New York City.

With an investment banking career spanning three decades, Hale boasts impressive credentials. He spent 20 years at Citigroup where he held leadership roles including co-heading the Equity Capital Markets for the Americas group between 2016-2019 and leading Strategic Equity Solutions for the Americas group from 2005-2019. His journey began at Smith Barney in 1995 when he worked in Energy and Power, M&A groups before making a transition to ECM.

O'Hara expressed enthusiasm over Hale's arrival: "We are pleased to welcome Clay to Wells Fargo," he said according to a company press release. "A veteran investment banker with a strong track record in leading equity capital markets and industry coverage teams, he joins our platform at an exciting time." O’Hara expects Hale to partner with Jill Ford in order to stimulate origination activity while simultaneously spearheading equity capital markets transactions across multiple industries.

The partnership was also praised by Jill Ford herself. "I’ve worked across the table from Clay on many transactions through the years," she revealed during another company press release. "He is an incredibly skilled banker and I’m excited to partner with him to lead and grow Wells Fargo’s ECM business."
