More than 1,000 people showed up to Marana Heritage River Park as part of the Town of Marana’s Public Works Week 2018.
With the first-ever Marana Macro Machines event, residents had the opportunity to explore public works, police, and fire vehicles.
The Public Works Department handles an assortment of vehicles including a motor grader, a dump truck, a wheel loader, and a drum roller. During the event, the department provided demonstrations and a short run-through of how they use their vehicles on-site. They also gave free flowers, ice pops, and plastic hard hats to children.
Meanwhile, the Marana Police Department carries a variety of vehicles including patrol cars, motorcycles, and SUV’s. Children also got the chance to experience these vehicles first-hand. The Pima Regional SWAT team also lent its armored vehicle for the day.
Traffic Engineering and Traffic Operations also provided information on traffic signals, traffic control plans, roundabouts, and traffic signs. The Marana Water Department also educated the children about the various filtration and purification processes, as well as provided a water purification display vehicle for a more interactive learning experience.
Animal Services and the Humane Society also brought some of their shelter animals to the event, while the Marana Regional Airport educated people about their facilities.
The Northwest Fire District also brought a fire truck and set up a hotdog and hamburger grill for the event.
